Cover & Cargo earns a commission from qualifying purchases made through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we recommend or the order we rank things in — here is how we choose and here is the full disclosure.

What this is based on: published manufacturer specifications and warranty terms, cited on each cover; independent published tests where they exist, named and linked; and verifiable owner reports of specific failure modes. We have not fitted these covers to a truck, we do not run a test lab, and we do not claim a test we did not run. Where the evidence for a cover is thin, the page says it is thin.

Scores are our own editorial judgment on the rubric published at our editorial policy page, weighing security, weather sealing, bed access, install effort, durability, value. They are read off published specifications, warranty terms and sourced owner reports. They are not measurements we took, and they are not user ratings.

The short answer

A 60-day money-back return that nothing else in this registry offers — minus return shipping of $59 to $700.

Three warranty terms under one product name: 5, 3 or 1 year depending on the Landmark trim.

An NHTSA recall on Peragon Tectonic three-panel covers, 1,112 units, for plastic slides that may allow the cover to detach in transit.

What Peragon is

A direct-sale manufacturer in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, selling two product families: the Landmark retractable (a below-the-bed aluminum cover Peragon describes as built for removability) and the Tectonic folding range.

Selling direct is the brand's defining characteristic. It means warranty claims go to the maker rather than a reseller, and it is why the 60-day return exists at all.

What Peragon does well

The 60-day return

Peragon publishes a 60-day money-back guarantee: the cover may be returned in new or gently used condition for a full refund of the purchase price, minus return shipping. After 60 days it cannot be returned.

On a product you cannot see in a store, cannot try on your truck, and will own for years, two months to decide is worth real money. Nothing else in this registry offers anything comparable.

Removability on a retractable

Peragon describes the Landmark as a below-the-bed aluminum retractable built for maximum security, ease of access and removability. Removability is the retractable type's standard weakness — every other retractable here is a permanent installation — so a maker designing against it is addressing a real limitation.

Note we have no published removal time to go on, so treat this as a design intention rather than a measured figure.

Made in America, sold direct

Published as made in America with manufacturing referenced in Shell Lake, Wisconsin. For warranty and parts, dealing with the manufacturer rather than a reseller is a practical advantage.

Known problems

How this section is built

No aggregate claim without at least two cited sources. Where we found only isolated reports, the page says so and labels it anecdote rather than a pattern. Forum threads are owner reports, not verified failure rates — they tell you what some owners experienced, not how common it is. Our sourcing standards in full.

The NHTSA recall — public record

NHTSA Campaign 25E043000, Peragon Enterprises, Inc. 1,112 units of Peragon Tectonic hard three-panel tonneau covers.

The published defect: “The bed cover's plastic slides may become damaged and allow the cover to detach during transit.” The published consequence: “A detached bed cover can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.”

The remedy is replacement components at no cost — carriage brackets, rail brackets, cab latch pins and steel sliders — with interim notification letters mailed 2 August 2025 and parts expected to ship in September 2025. Owners can contact Peragon at 1-877-473-7246.

How to read this: a recall is not evidence a brand is bad. It is evidence a specific defect was identified and is being remedied through the official process, which is how the system is meant to work. What it does mean is that if you own a Peragon Tectonic cover, check whether yours is affected — and if you are buying one used, ask whether the remedy was carried out.

Installation alignment

Owner reviews published on Peragon's own site report that the brackets must be perfectly aligned for the cover to work correctly, that track alignment takes the most time during installation, and that installation required uninstalling, reinstalling and repeated loosening and readjustment.

That is consistent with Peragon not publishing an install time. Budget more time than you would for a clamp-on cover, and read the squaring sequence before you start.

Leakage

Published owner reviews and a complaint listing both reference leakage, including water entering through the seal as snow melted, and slight leakage through a car wash. Two independent sources, so a documented pattern rather than an isolated report — with the usual caveat that no tonneau cover is waterproof.

Bed space and operation

Owner reviews report the cover taking up a quarter to a third of the bed for its opening and closing action, and report noise from the cover moving in its track under acceleration and deceleration when open. They also report that an object sliding too far forward in the bed can block the cover's folding path, requiring you to climb in to move it.

What Peragon does not publish

No load rating, no install time, no cover weight for the Landmark. Three figures every comparable cover publishes.

If you own a Peragon Tectonic cover

Check whether yours is covered by NHTSA Campaign 25E043000 and whether the remedy has been carried out. The replacement components are free. If you are buying one secondhand, ask the seller the same question.

The verdict

The 60-day return is genuinely valuable and the direct-sale model has real advantages. Against that: three warranty terms under one name, three unpublished specifications, a documented installation difficulty, a documented leak pattern and an active recall on the folding range.

For most buyers wanting a retractable, the RETRAX route publishes more and asks less — the two compared directly. Buy Peragon if the return window is specifically what makes the purchase possible.

Common questions

Is there a recall on Peragon tonneau covers?

Yes. NHTSA Campaign 25E043000 covers 1,112 Peragon Tectonic hard three-panel tonneau covers. The published defect is that the bed cover's plastic slides may become damaged and allow the cover to detach during transit, which NHTSA describes as a road hazard increasing crash risk. The remedy is free replacement components; owners can contact Peragon at 1-877-473-7246.

What is Peragon's return policy?

A 60-day money-back guarantee — the cover may be returned in new or gently used condition for a full refund of the purchase price, minus return shipping, which Peragon publishes at $59 to $700 depending on model and location. After 60 days it cannot be returned.

Are Peragon covers hard to install?

Owner reviews published on Peragon's own site report that the brackets must be perfectly aligned for the cover to work, that track alignment takes the most time, and that installs required uninstalling, reinstalling and repeated readjustment. Peragon does not publish an install time, which is consistent with that.

What warranty does Peragon offer?

It depends on the trim. On the Landmark retractable: 5 years on the Limited HD, 3 years on the Platinum, 1 year on the Classic. On the Tectonic folding range: lifetime on the standard, 5 years on the Pro, 3 years on the Sport. One product name, several coverage levels — confirm which you are buying.
