RETRAX PowertraxPRO XR vs RetraxONE XR
Same brand, same T-slot rails, same canister cost to your bed. The published numbers are not close.

Cover & Cargo earns a commission from qualifying purchases made through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we recommend or the order we rank things in — here is how we choose and here is the full disclosure.
What this is based on: published manufacturer specifications and warranty terms, cited on each cover; independent published tests where they exist, named and linked; and verifiable owner reports of specific failure modes. We have not fitted these covers to a truck, we do not run a test lab, and we do not claim a test we did not run. Where the evidence for a cover is thin, the page says it is thin.

Scores are our own editorial judgment on the rubric published at our editorial policy page, weighing security, weather sealing, bed access, install effort, durability, value. They are read off published specifications, warranty terms and sourced owner reports. They are not measurements we took, and they are not user ratings.
The short answer
These are not close. 500 lb against 200 lb. Three years then prorated lifetime against one year.
Both cost you the same canister at the bulkhead, permanently, with no published dimension.
The only reason to buy the ONE XR is its integrated T-slot rails at the lowest price in the RETRAX range — and the PowertraxPRO XR has those too.
The published gap
| PowertraxPRO XR | RetraxONE XR | |
|---|---|---|
| Load rating | 500 lb, evenly distributed | 200 lb, evenly distributed |
| Warranty | 3 years, then prorated lifetime | Limited hassle-free, 1 year |
| Deck material | Aluminum | Aluminum-reinforced polycarbonate |
| Operation | Remote, electromagnetic brake | Manual, key-lockable in any position |
| Rails | Trax Rail System, most T-slot accessories | Integrated T-slot rails |
| Finish | Matte black | Premium textured matte black |
| Install | No cutting or drilling, plus a power feed | Clamp-on, no cutting or drilling |
Both are published as no-drill clamp-on fits with integrated T-slot rails. Neither publishes canister dimensions, which is the figure that would let you size the bed-length cost before buying.
Why the gap is bigger than it looks
A 200 lb rating is not a slightly lower 500 lb. It is below every hard folding cover in our registry including the entry-level Gator FX3 at 300 lb. And a one-year warranty on a mechanism with rollers, rails and a canister is short for the category.
The thing that makes this hard to accept: you pay the retractable's structural cost either way. The canister takes bed length permanently on both covers, and RETRAX publishes its dimensions on neither. Paying that cost for the weaker cover is the part that needs justifying.
The T-slot case, which is real
RETRAX publishes integrated T-slot rails on both, taking most third-party racks, cargo holders, crossbars and bed tents. If a rack system is specifically why you want a retractable, that compatibility is a genuine reason to be in this family rather than buying a folding cover.
But the PowertraxPRO XR has the same rails. So the ONE XR's case narrows to exactly one thing: T-slot rails at the lowest price RETRAX offers them. If that is precisely your constraint, it is a defensible purchase. If it is not, the ONE XR is the wrong cover. Rack compatibility in full.
The option neither of these is
If you want the RETRAX mechanism and do not need a motor, the RetraxPRO MX is the cover to look at: 500 lb like the PowertraxPRO XR, a straight limited lifetime warranty rather than three years then prorated, double-wall aluminum slats, temperature tested from -40°F to 180°F, and nothing electrical to fail. Powered against manual.
Read the rating before the brand
Both of these are RETRAX covers and both look the part. Brand consistency does not carry the specification across the range — a 200 lb rating with a one-year warranty is a 200 lb rating with a one-year warranty whatever is printed on it.
The picks in detail
#1 · Opening the bed without touching it
RETRAX PowertraxPRO XR
RETRAX · Retractable (electric)
The electric retractable to beat: 500 lb rating, remote operation with an electromagnetic brake so it stops anywhere, and T-slot rails that take most third-party rack accessories.
What it does well
- 500 lb published rating, the highest of any retractable here
- The electromagnetic brake means it holds at any opening, not just fully open or closed
- T-slot rails are a genuine ecosystem rather than a proprietary dead end
Where it gives way
- The canister permanently occupies bed length at the bulkhead and cannot be removed for a tall load
- RETRAX does not publish canister dimensions, so you cannot plan around the loss before buying
- Powered operation adds a wiring step and a failure mode a manual cover does not have
Skip it if: Anyone who wants the bed length back. A retractable's canister lives at the bulkhead permanently, and it is not removable like a folding cover.
| Construction | Aluminum |
|---|---|
| Finish | Matte black |
| Load rating | 500 lb, evenly distributed |
| Operation | Remote activation with electromagnetic brake — stops at any point |

#2 · T-slot rack compatibility
RetraxONE XR
RETRAX · Retractable (manual)
The T-slot retractable at the accessible end of the RETRAX range. Read the two published numbers before you buy: 200 lb, and one year.
What it does well
- Integrated T-slot rails at the lowest price in the RETRAX retractable line
- Key-lockable in any position, the same as the more expensive models
- Polycarbonate deck is lighter than the PRO's double-wall aluminum
Where it gives way
- 200 lb rating — a quarter of what the Extang folding covers publish and under half the RetraxPRO MX
- One-year warranty, against limited lifetime on the RetraxPRO MX
- Canister cost in bed length is the same as the expensive models without the matching durability numbers
Skip it if: Carrying anything meaningful on top — 200 lb is less than half what the PRO models publish.

Common questions
What is the difference between the PowertraxPRO XR and RetraxONE XR?
A great deal. The PowertraxPRO XR publishes 500 lb and three years then prorated lifetime, with remote operation and an electromagnetic brake. The RetraxONE XR publishes 200 lb and a one-year warranty, manual operation, and an aluminum-reinforced polycarbonate deck. Both carry integrated T-slot rails and both cost you the same permanent canister.
Is the RetraxONE XR worth buying?
Only if integrated T-slot rails at the lowest price RETRAX offers them is specifically what you need. At 200 lb it is rated below every hard folding cover in our registry including the entry-level ones, and the one-year warranty is short for a mechanism with rollers and rails.
Which RETRAX cover should I actually buy?
The RetraxPRO MX for most people — 500 lb like the PowertraxPRO XR, with a straight limited lifetime warranty rather than three years then prorated, double-wall aluminum slats, temperature testing from -40°F to 180°F, and no motor to fail.
Do both RETRAX models take rack accessories?
Yes. RETRAX publishes integrated T-slot rails on both the PowertraxPRO XR and the RetraxONE XR, accepting most third-party crossbars, cargo holders and bed tents. That is the ONE XR's whole case, and the PowertraxPRO XR has it too.
